Progress Report – University Website, Webserver

September 23rd, 2010 by Erick Beck

I know posts are becoming a bit few and far between. We haven’t been idle during this time, though. Over about the last month we have been doing a strong push to get the new university website ready.  We have a good start now, and are starting to show bits and pieces to stakeholders across campus.  It shouldn’t be too long before we release a more campus-wide preview.

As most of you are aware, this project isn’t only about the website, but the entire architecture, including the hardware that the site runs on, what will be installed on the server, and how it will be managed.  Over the last three years we have been systematically moving customer websites off of the university webserver (see and onto their own platforms so that we can insure the security of the machine and make sure that it is purposed appropriately.  We extend our sincere thanks to the over 200 site owners who have thus far been a part of this effort.  We are down now to less than a half-dozen, and these should all have alternate homes by the time we are ready to turn on the new site.
