It’s Time… to start again

April 29th, 2010 by Erick Beck

It’s no secret that the university has gone through a lot of changes in the last year.  Now that things have somewhat stabilized we need to re-evaluate the university home page and make sure it has kept up with those changes and with the positioning of modern university websites.  Without using the dreaded “redesign” word, we want to therefore let you know that over the summer we will be looking at how we can graphically and functionally update

For the most part we are looking at this from a visual and usability standpoint, we don’t intend to do a major overhaul of the internal content or site structure.   We did a complete rewrite and reorganization of the entire site last time, and for the most part the architecture has held up.

A few of our goals:

  • Increase the visual appeal of the site, primarily through better use of imagery, positioning, and  color selection
  • Incorporate the It’s Time university marketing campaign into the site
  • Increase exposure for campus news and events
  • Improve methods of reaching campus organizations (e.g., the quicklinks)
  • Refocus the presentation of content to better target the external audience

As always, we want your input into this project since the site will represent all of you as part of the university.  So if you have any suggestions send them our way.  We want to know what is currently lacking that you’d like to see, what is currently on the site that should be removed, and what can be changed to offer better service to our visitors.
