TAMU Webmaster's Blog

Information and insight from the A&M Webmasters

Twittering away

January 7th, 2009 by tamuwebmaster

As a few of you have already noticed from some test tweets, we’ve been playing around with a group Twitter function for our Webmaster’s Twitter account.

We realized that it would be nice to use Twitter to post items of a Web nature–news, URLs, updates. The problem was that we wanted to be able to use our own Twitter accounts, but yet have it be a “webmaster’s tweet”. The other is that we wanted to be able to do so without all of our other personal and professional tweets being posted on a blog as well.

After some testing we’re using GroupTweet to make our webmaster’s Twitter account a group account and then using that as the Twitter account to pull from using Alex King’s TwitterTool plug-in. We’ll also be throwing them by default into a “Tweets” category which will help us in the archiving of those posts.

So to those who already follow “tamuwww” we apologize for random “test messages”, but we hope that this will give us another dimension to what we post here on the blog. Barring any unforeseen weirdness we’ll move it online shortly.
