A Look into the Future

December 3rd, 2008 by Erick Beck

As I mentioned last time, we have a quite long list of projects to do.  We could easily work full time for the next year on just what we have and not have any downtime, and as you know from your own experience, new projects don’t wait for you to finish your list before demanding attention. As most of you know by now, Olga West, or Executive Director for Marketing, has left and we are in the process of refilling the position.

This choice will, of course, greatly affect how we move forward, but the basic framework for what we intend to accomplish was already well established before she decided to leave.  The over-arching theme of web marketing for the university will be the use of an integrated social media strategy as a way of reaching potential students and their parents. This means more than putting up a Facebook page or hosting pictures on Flickr; it instead means using these and other similar tools — tools which our target audience are comfortable with and use every day — together and as part of our already existing websites to make them more contemporary. We have already started adding bits and pieces of this concept to existing sites, but sites published next year will be built with these strategies as a part of their core rather than haveing them added on after-the-fact.
