So what is everybody else doing?

October 1st, 2008 by Erick Beck

A few weeks ago I saw a posting in the national uwebd mailing list that caught my attention. Matt Pasiewicz, Manager of Web Development at EDUCAUSE, posted a “little pet project” in which he had captured the source code of over 1,800 university home pages and bolted on a search function that let viewers search for specific strings. For example, do you want to know who is using jquery? will show you.

The page comes complete with several pre-canned searches like the jquery one, and also gives a search box to let you search for strings of your own. Note that this search will look for any text strings in the page, so you can look at other university’s navigational structures and page content as well as embedded technologies. Very Cool!

  1. Great way to search for higher education marketing buzzwords too.
