Information and insight from the A&M Webmasters

New presidential and administration sites

April 4th, 2008 by tamuwebmaster

Today we flipped the switch on President Murano’s site and the Provost’s site. As you can see, there have been some changes to the site. This is most evident in Dr. Murano’s site because we wanted to create something that fit the A&M Web look, and yet provide something that befits her as the president.

As we begin to discuss Web branding, this ties into what I was saying at the IT Forum. Really instead of clones of the A&M main site, we want to visually create sites that look they are part of a family of A&M sites. The president’s and the provost’s sites are examples of this idea. While they visually communicate that they are part of the A&M “family” (people won’t get lost when going from www to the president’s site), each has its own purpose and therefore design attributed to the purpose.

As an FYI, we’re also beginning to move toward a Flash video format for our www-hosted videos. Since Dr. Murano uses video to communicate, we’ll probably be using her site as a place to work out the Flash video interface and other programmatic features. Once that gets to where we want it, we’ll be tackling our “Welcome to Aggieland” and other videos as well. We’re going to let iTunes U be the purveyor of the QT versions.
