Information and insight from the A&M Webmasters

WWW Web Hosting

March 5th, 2008 by Erick Beck

As posted earlier, we are trying to clean up the filesystem on the WWW webserver in parallel with the production of the new web site. Yesterday was a milestone in that effort. The last of the redirects were removed from the server, and we are down to only a handfull of student organizations being hosted there. Ignoring faculty and class directories, there were over 200 directories when John and I arrived, now we’re down to 75 – many of which make up part of the university’s administrative web presence and so should be hosted on the server.

With this milestone behind us, we intend to start looking at the best hosting alternatives for the remainder of the sites left on the server. There are still many professional organizations and non-administrative offices that we’ll need to revisit over the next several months. No specific decisions have yet been made, but in general we’d like to continue trimming down the non-administrative sites still residing on the server.

  1. That reminds me: I have another one to take off your hands. Are you handling these, or still going through CIS?
