WWW Content Nearing Completion

January 8th, 2008 by Erick Beck

Welcome back from the holidays, I know it takes most of us a while to get back into the swing of things, but here in Marketing & Communications we jumped back onto the WWW project in full force.

After a successful hardware upgrade in December we moved on to some of the other housekeeping issues involving the server. We have successfully contacted over 50 content owners of directories that consist of nothing by redirects to other web sites and have gotten all but about a dozen removed. We feel confident that we’ll have the rest shortly. Our goal is to cut down the number of directories on the server from just short of 200 to a more managable 75 by the end of this year.

At the same time we’ve been working on the content text for the new university site, and I’m happy to say it’s just about finished. This will include not only the core website itself but also things like documenttion for the Google search appliance, and the updating of several client sites. We will be showing the text to a few outside parties as a way of usability testing to make sure we haven’t forgotten something and that everything that most users might be looking for is online and easy to find.

Graphical look is coming much slower. We have one early prototype that I’ll post later, but the direction we’re going is a bit different. We do have the wire-frame of how the site content will be laid out, but the actual color and graphical selection composing the look and feel is a work in progress.
