Information and insight from the A&M Webmasters

Web color palette

December 11th, 2007 by tamuwebmaster

As we begin the design process, we’ve had to take a new look at the colors in the Brand Guide color palette. We’re really wanting to lose that “sea of white” that the site sits on and begin working in a little bit more color. However as in earlier posts, much of the color palette in the print brand guide is a little bold for use in large swaths on the Web. As we begin to look at what colors and color families would best serve the site, I’ve started by taking a simple pass at running shades on the current Brand Colors.

The graphic above is just part of it (it’s a large image), so this downloadable PDF swatch page is available. Also, please realize two important things:

  1. We are not suggesting to use every one of these colors. We will probably center in on a couple of color families or pick a swatch set across families.
  2. Like painting the outside of a house, a color doesn’t always look the same once it’s up on the wall. These color choices may/will be revised once we see how a background, a menu, a link, etc. looks on the screen.

  1. It looks like the columns beginning with 00583D and 003D4D are switched. 003D4D has a blue base and 00583D has a green base.
