Web color palette, part 1

With the Brand Guide being released and with our minor updates to the A&M Web pages, we’re getting questions about color palettes. Now, the Brand Guide does have a color chart in which the print colors have a corresponding hex and RGB value, but we still get a lot of questions regarding the colors we’re using. The current primary color palette is:

For the current Web site, the maroon is evident in its locations, #8F8F8C is used in the headers and #545454 is used for the navigation box and left hand margin on secondary/tertiary pages. While #BABCBE is noted as an “accent color” in the Brand Guide, we are staying away from it because of its contrast with the other grays. We will not be recommending it for use on Web pages.

  1. So is #6C1420 done with and #500000 in for good? I was under the impression 6C1420 was going to be the new hex being used. Thanks.

  3. In a word, yes. #6C1420 was derived from a preliminary CMYK color by our creative director. However, once Pantone was brought in and settled the debate with a custom Aggie Maroon, the #500000 was decided upon.
