Google Appliance Retirement

August 21st, 2013 by Erick Beck

As we have mentioned in the past, we will be retiring the Google Search Appliance when the license expires and will be moving to the Google Custom Search instead.

The decomissioning date is set for September 16.

Any of your pages that still point to search.tamu.edu at that point will have returns provided by the Custom Search service. For many of you that will be fine. Please be aware, though, that at this point your pages may break if you have implemented custom collections, custom styles, or anything other than a default university search.

The university search at search.tamu.edu will remain available for anyone who wants to point to it for their search returns. If you want customizations, though, you will need to set up your own Google Custom Search account. Michael will be available for anyone who would like help in this transition. We will also having one more open meeting where we can answer questions about the transition [EDIT: Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, 2:00 p.m. in MSC Room 2506 (in the west wing)]
