Information and insight from the A&M Webmasters

Introducing the mobile web

December 15th, 2009 by Erick Beck

My last post left off pondering the nature of collaboration on the Texas A&M web presence.  One thing that we all have in common, and all have a vested interest in, is getting our information out to mobile devices.

Not much has been done on campus to make our sites mobile friendly, our own pages includes.  We intend to change this, and are just about ready to release version 1 of the Texas A&M Mobile Web. This version features a mobile version of the new campus calendar, which many of us across campus have eagerly embraced.  It also will include links to the Evans Library mobile web application.

Our featured collaboration, and my personal favorite, is a Bus Routes and Schedule application that we couldn’t have done without the help of Transportation Services.  We intend to add more features in the upcoming months, many of which won’t be possible without your help.

While the site hasn’t launched yet, we invite you to m.tamu.edu for additional information and a test-drive on our development server.   Please talk a look and send us your feedback — from experiences on your particular device to additional content that could be added to whole new features that you would like.  Keep in mind that it is still beta and that we’re still working on various elements, but we’re getting closer every day.
