Social Media Icons

March 16th, 2009 by Erick Beck

We’re still at the very beginning of our quest for a truly integrated social media presence on our university site, but the icons we placed on the university page (and now the Visitor Center, Tailgating, and iTunes U) have proven moderately successful after only a week. If you have social media pages like these we would highly encourage you to start advertising them with prominent icon links.

We are seeing increased traffic to these sites, which is all we had really hoped for — increased visibility and awareness that the sites existed.  We can now go on to the next step of making the social sites part of a single strategy.

We will be starting with podcasting/video.  We plan to wrap all of our video offerings into a single area where people can come and see everything we have.  This will incorporate the iTunes U site, our You Tube offerings,  as well as a makeover of the Do You Wonder? site.  We also plan to work with the Media Matrix folks to incorporate their services and videos.

But we haven’t forgotten about you!  If you have podcasts that you aren’t already contributing to one of the larger repositories above we would love to work with you to get your content included.  All we’ll need is an RSS feed we can point to and some general best practices and you can be a part of this too.
