Information and insight from the A&M Webmasters

Making some changes …

April 3rd, 2008 by tamuwebmaster

For those that were at the March 26 IT Forum, I had a chance to talk about the A&M web site redesign and some of our philosophy behind its recent transformation and future management. If you’ve heard me talk about the A&M website, then you know I’ve probably uttered the terms “perpetual beta”.

We’re big proponents of this evolutionary mindset for development, and we’ve begun to implement that into WWW. While nothing overtly monumental, we’ve swapped out the QuickLinks at the bottom of the page. Since we are heading into the last gasps of the Spring semester and graduation, course registration–and for incoming folks–new student conferences, we’ve made modifications there. We’ll swap them out again after graduation for the summer. We’re also trying some new link placement to see how traffic might be affected to those pages or sites.

Also we’re looking over the Google Search Appliance analytics, to see what trends and terms are evident so that the main page can reflect user needs. In fact, our GSA top ten is available online on our Web team’s Google page, if you’d like to see what the list is. It again tells us a few things, such as the “library” and “elearning” are key searches.

It also tells us that we really need a calendar, but that’s for another post.

  1. Just wondering when we might be able to put Distance Learning back on the Quick Links at the bottom of the tamu.edu home page. We have seen a considerable drop in hits since it was taken off.
