Progress Report

December 6th, 2007 by Erick Beck

We have worked out an arrangement with CIS Network staff on how to host the Google appliance. They will be able to configure the firewall and various network components such that the search applance will be “outside the firewall” in terms of what it can see. This means that we will be able to automatically exclude spidered hosts which are not accessible through the firewall which would have otherwise turned up in the crawl. Our thanks to Ellen, Matt, and the others involved!

Slow progress is being made on the WWW web site. Kim is still trying to put a graphical look together for it, but I have started moving forward with a minimumal HTML/CSS skeleton. This is allowing us to also start working on content. The content is being completely rewritten and will hopefully be more relevant to the page and therefore more useful to the viewer.

We’re hopeful for a January launch, but it still isn’t too late to send in your ideas. We have had remarkably few contributed from the public so far. Some of these have been directly incorporated, and some have led to completely tangential ideas that we nonetheless liked and are adding to the site.
