Weekly Activity
October 29th, 2007 by Erick Beck
This week has a lot of projects coming together to allow us to cross them off our list.
- The campus maps are in the final stages of being moved to a new server. This will allow better performance on one of the most popular applications on campus, and represents the final site to be moved onto our new hardware infrastructure. This will in turn allow us to redeploy the current hardware toward a project that I’ll announce later in the semester.
- The Brand Guide official launch is still planned for this week, so we have a lot of last minute updates and additions for that.
- Last week’s move to the new web templates was only the tip of the iceberg. There are currently four templates looking roughly similar serving out our pages. Over the next few months we want to move the more widely viewed of these into the new template.
- The Goole Appliance has arrived! Right now we’re still in the process of installing and configuring it. Be patient though. Once it’s up and running we’ll turn the spider loose on campus and see how the returns look. We will want to make sure that the returns are as effective as the current search before opening it for campus use, so that may or may not take some time to tweak it. Part of this process will also be putting together an online guide for campus webmasters.
- Kim and John continue to work on the new A&M page look. We have gotten very few suggestions from the public so far, so for those of you who have been chomping at the bit for years to express your opinions, this is your chance, send them on!
- I pretty much have the front-page news and event headline code completed. The only thing lacking is actual live data – so if you have RSS feeds that could provide useful information and you haven’t passed along yet, please do so.
Looks like some great work going on – the regular updates are much appreciated!
